After diagnostic tests, we learned that the lump that my wife, Jan, had discovered on her abdomen wasn’t merely one lump; there were many. Diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, she endured a parade of chemo protocols and radiation regimens and fought off C. diff and bloodstream infections. Despite receiving the best treatments available, Jan passed away in 2018.

But that’s not the story I want to tell. As my warrior bride battled this insidious cancer, a miracle took place. We were introduced to Tracey Dwyer, a wellness practitioner working out of Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital. She provided Jan and other patients with massage, reiki, yoga and other therapies, at no cost.

Jan found not only a nontraditional source of pain relief, but also strength and purpose. She found her inner warrior. To honor her and the amazing caregivers of Cleveland Clinic, the Logsdon Family Wellness Center was created to ensure alternative approaches to after-care would always be available in our community.

Jan’s words have always said it best: “Love is all there is!”

Dave and Jan Logsdon were married 42 years and raised three children. A gift from the couple has established the Logsdon Family Wellness Center for Integrative Medicine at Medina Hospital to offer more integrative medicine options. In 2019, they were honored with the Crile Award in recognition of outstanding contributions of time, talent and resources to Cleveland Clinic.
