Reality Check
No, this isn’t a scene from an electronic dance music rave. In the Simulation and Advanced Skills Center on Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, trainees don virtual reality (VR) headsets to enter lifelike interactive settings where they can refine the skills they’ll need to deal with trauma, sepsis, airway compromise and other scenarios. The technology also allows users to run through simulations in real time with other trainees around the world. “Virtual reality provides an immersive environment,” says Nichole Brown, a senior simulation education specialist. “It allows for more experimentation, which ultimately leads to better learning.”
