In Loving Memory: Sydell L. Miller | 1937-2024
With profound gratitude, we dedicate this issue of Cleveland Clinic Magazine to Sydell L. Miller, who passed away February 25. This extraordinary woman made her mark as a trailblazer and trendsetter in the beauty industry, although the most beautiful thing about her may have been her compassion. Sydell embodied “tikkun olam,” the Hebrew concept of “repairing the world,” and supported many causes. She and her daughters, Stacie Halpern and Lauren Spilman, gave a transformational gift to create the Miller Family Pavilion on Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, home to the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. A cherished member of our Cleveland Clinic family, Sydell served on the Board of Trustees and the Florida Leadership Council. In recognition of her philanthropic leadership, she was inducted into the 1921 Society and honored with the inaugural Sydell Miller Award. Her generosity paved the way for the innovations in cardiovascular care, research and education that we celebrate in the following pages, and her kindness will have a lasting impact at Cleveland Clinic and beyond. In seeking to repair the world, our dear friend Sydell left it a better place.
