Cleveland Clinic Bulletin (later known as Cleveland Clinic Quarterly and Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine) launches. The first issue includes articles on “Treatment of Malignancy” and “Diverticula of the Urinary Bladder” by Cleveland Clinic co-founders George Crile Sr., MD, and William Lower, MD, respectively. The Editorial Department is led by Amy Rowland (pictured), Dr. Crile’s longtime associate.

Dr. Roy McCullagh, PhD, of Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Biophysics posits the existence of inhibins, key proteins related to sex hormones and reproductive health. In the 1930s, Dr. McCullagh also pioneers the measurement of thyroid function through iodine levels in the blood.
