Cleveland Clinic’s main campus was dramatically transformed yet again with the 2008 opening of the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Pavilion and Glickman Tower. Between them, the new buildings added more than 1 million square feet of space, complete with leading-edge treatment, imaging and diagnostic technology and patient rooms with hotel-like amenities. A gift from philanthropist Sydell Miller and her family funded the Miller Family Pavilion, home of the Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. Philanthropists Carl and Babs Glickman made a gift toward the construction of Glickman Tower, which houses the Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute. The largest construction project in Cleveland Clinic’s history also included the additions of a “sky fountain” (affectionately known as “the doughnut”) outside the main entrance to the Miller Family Pavilion and a tree lined pool decorated with natural stones (aka “the cookie sheet”) along East 93rd Street. A stretch of the latter thoroughfare was renamed Cleveland Clinic Way in 2021.
